Panda Security has received widespread praise for their free Panda Cloud Antivirus 1.1 (Free, With its slate-grey background and white text Panda, definitely makes a fashion statement. The main window displays just enough information to let you know that all security elements are working correctly…or not. If there's any problem with the security configuration, a warning appears, along with a button to solve the problem. But enough about how it looks—how well does it work? Liked by the Labs ICSA Labs and West Coast Labs certify Panda for both detection and removal of malware threats. In its most recent tests AV-Comparatives rated Panda ADVANCED both for on-demand malware cleanup and for proactive detection. Panda would have attained the top score of ADVANCED+ in both cases, but got dinged for false positives. Overall, its independent test scores are impressive. Support, Automated and Otherwise On one test system, malware derailed the installation process. Tech support recommended scanning with the rescue CD. When that didn't solve the problem, they supplied an interesting tool called PSCAN, which lets support technicians remotely gather information and push automatic fixes back to your computer. With very little user interaction required, it's a nice compromise between phone support and full remote control. Technicians working through PSCAN fixed my first problem system. The other required full-scale remote access help. The website www.fixmypanda.com provides access to PSCAN, the remote access client, support forums, and many useful security utilities. | Comodo Antivirus Earns Checkmark Certification from West Coast Labs Passing Rigorous ... Posted: 24 Aug 2010 05:51 AM PDT | | Comodo, Inc. Press release date: August 16, 2010Independent Comparative Testing Body Confirms Quality of Comodo Security Solutions, Awarding Antivirus Certification Jersey City, NJ, - Comodo, a leading Certificate Authority and Internet security organization, today announced that its Comodo Antivirus earned the prestigious Checkmark Certification, confirming a high quality of programming by West Coast Labs, a leading independent security product testing facility. For a product to be accredited to the Checkmark Antivirus Certification, the antivirus software product must be able to detect all those viruses, worms and BOTS currently 'in the wild', which are listed in the WildList current at the time of testing. This gives a clear and independent indication to end users of those antivirus products that they can be relied on for their detection capabilities. Checkmark Certification for Antivirus attests to the fact that software security system meets stringent quality standards and was tested to determine its ability to disinfect files infected with viruses. "We are pleased that Comodo Antivirus has earned the respected Checkmark Certification, an important third-party validation of our detection capability of our Antivirus," said Melih Abdulhayoglu, Comodo CEO and chief security architect. "PC users can now have even greater confidence in Comodo's ability to protect their systems from today's security threats thanks to the rigorous, independent real-world testing performed by West Coast Labs." By achieving this Certification, Comodo confirms the effectiveness of its Comodo Antivirus protection, that is also included in Comodo's Endpoint Security Manager, which provides centralized management of Comodo's endpoint security software for networked PCs. This protects against viruses and malware by focusing on prevention not simply detection. This Antivirus software has been built with intelligence, meaning that it recognizes typical viral behavior. Comodo Antivirus, upon detecting a suspicious file that could be a virus, will immediately place that file in "Antivirus Jail" causing the file is blocked, awaiting trial. If it's a viral invader, then it is deleted.
